Apple is planning to open more retail stores in China, building two in Hong Kong, with one opening by the end of this year, according to the South China Morning Post. That store will be located in the IFC Mall, and will be 15,000 square feet. A second, 20,000 square foot store will be built in Causeway Bay, opening in late 2012.

The Hong Kong stores will reportedly cost over $40 million, part of Apple’s plan to put 20 new stores in China in 2011. There are currently four Apple stores in the country, two each in Beijing and Shanghai. Each of those cities will get an additional store as part of an aggressive overall expansion plan. Another store is rumored to be opening this year in Taipei, Taiwan.

The first Apple store opened in China in 2008. Currently, the Chinese stores are visited by over 40,000 customers per day at each location.
