David Ake\/AP<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A small fire forced the evacuation of the IRS headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman Terry Lemons told The Associated Press that the fire that started in the basement around 3:30 p.m., and created a lot of smoke \u2014 forcing the building to be evacuated.<\/p>\n<p><em><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/public-safety\/irs-headquarters-evacuated-monday-after-fire-breaks-out-in-basement\/2016\/04\/04\/fe0a4fd6-fac1-11e5-886f-a037dba38301_story.html?hpid=hp_rhp-moreheds_irsfire-905pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory\">The Washington Post<\/a><\/em> reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\n<p>The building closed about 2:45 p.m. Monday, before the fire started, &#8220;due to electrical issues with the air-conditioning system,&#8221; an IRS spokesman said. He said that about 2,000 people work there and that &#8220;a few hundred&#8221; were still in the building when the fire broke out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There were no injuries and the cause is being investigated.<\/p>\n<p>The building will be closed on Tuesday because it doesn&#8217;t have full electricity.<\/p>\n<p>The fire will not affect processing of tax returns, which is done elsewhere, officials told <em>The Post.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The tax return filing <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2016\/03\/25\/471765308\/irs-and-cyber-criminals-step-up-spy-v-spy-efforts-whos-winning\">deadline is usually April 15<\/a>, but this year taxpayers get a little more time to finish up \u2014 or in some cases get started.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the Washington D.C.
