It&#8217;s announcing a series of moves, including installing more solar energy units in federally subsidized housing, low cost loans for homeowners and a program to help renters.<\/p>\n<p>The White House recently pledged that the U.S. would get 20 percent of its total electricity from renewable sources by 2030, about three times what it does now. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/energy-environment\/wp\/2015\/07\/07\/many-americans-lack-access-to-solar-energy-heres-how-obama-plans-to-change-that\/\">The Washington Post reports<\/a> the administration is concerned about what might be called energy inequality:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\n<p>&#8221; &#8216;It&#8217;s very important not only that we achieve that goal, but how we get there as well,&#8217; noted Obama senior adviser Brian Deese on a media call. &#8216;We know there are significant challenges in the scope and geographic reach of solar.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;More and more voices of late are airing concerns about equal access to solar energy. &#8216;The rapid decline of solar panel costs in recent years has ushered in a solar boom that has not spread uniformly across the spectrum of U.S. household incomes,&#8217; notes <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/solar.gwu.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/GWSI-Bridging%20the%20Solar%20Income%20Gap%20Working%20Paper.pdf\">a recent paper<\/a> from the George Washington University Solar Institute. &#8216;Despite being more vulnerable to energy costs, lower income Americans have lagged behind more affluent households in adopting solar and realizing its numerous benefits.&#8217; &#8220;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The administration plans to train some 200 low-income people to get jobs in the solar industry.
