Pixar’s Inside Out<\/em><\/strong><\/a> enjoyed the biggest opening weekend for an original, non-sequel film, and so naturally fans are already eagar to hear about a sequel. Will there be one? Considering Pixar has made sequels for the Toy Story, Cars<\/em> and Monsters, Inc.<\/em> franchises — with sequels to Finding Nemo<\/em> and The Incredibles<\/em> in the works too — it makes sense that Inside Out<\/em> may schedule a part two on the docket following its sensational debut.<\/p>\n

So what’s the latest on Inside Out 2<\/em>?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking to EW<\/a>, director Pete Docter readily admits that he’s not very interested in continuing the story and would rather focus on more original material. “There’s no sequel idea from me at this point,” he tells them, later teasing… “Never say never.”<\/p>\n

And that couldn’t be more true for a movie like The Incredibles<\/em>, which first debuted in 2004 and is set to get a sequel in 2016, 12 years later. That might actually work in Inside Out’<\/em>s favor, especially if they make a sequel in 10 years and just pick up with Riley in her early twenties. <\/p>\n

As far as when Pixar will release an original movie versus a sequel to an existing franchise, Pixar president Jim Morris laid it out as such: “We try to have a balance, ideally an original film every year and a sequel every other year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Does Inside Out<\/em> deserve a sequel? What do you think?<\/p>\n
