A months-long effort to reform the states problem-plagued school finance system before the Texas Supreme Court weighs in came to an end on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Facing a slew of amendments and attempts to kill his bill on procedural grounds, House Public Education Chairman Jimmie Don Aycockwithdrew his measure from consideration less than an hour into a scheduled debate on proposed fixes to the way the state funds public schools.<\/p>\n
We could go all day with this bill, said Aycock, a Killeen Republican. I dont think its fair to leave this bill pending with everything else thats up when we know already the Senate is already almost certainly not even considering the measure.<\/p>\n
With just over two weeks left in the legislative session, thedecision came as the House faced a key deadline: Thursday is the last day the chamber can take initial votes on bills that originated in the House.<\/p>\n
