\"\"<\/a>President Obama’s <\/span>latest<\/span> announcement of U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq was <\/span>good<\/span> news. The Iraq war <\/span>is the<\/span> second longest American war in history <\/span>following<\/span> Afghanistan. The U.S. has been at this war for <\/span>102<\/span> months thus far; <\/span>much longer<\/span> than the war <\/span>time span<\/span> of Vietnam, Korean, <\/span>WWII<\/span>, <\/span>World War I<\/span> and the Civil War.<\/p>\n

<\/span>America<\/span> has sustained <\/span>significant<\/span> war damages in human lives and casualties <\/span>in addition to<\/span> loss of wealth. We lost <\/span>roughly<\/span> <\/span>four thousand<\/span> lives of young <\/span>people<\/span> and sustained <\/span>approximately<\/span> 40,000 war injuries with varying <\/span>stages<\/span> of disabilities.<\/p>\n

The long term effects <\/span>might be<\/span> pervasive for medical care treatment of <\/span>seriously injured<\/span> veterans and loss of their <\/span>income<\/span> at market value. Of the $14+ trillion national debt of the <\/span>United States<\/span>, <\/span>nearly<\/span> one trillion dollars or 7.5% of that was the direct and explicit <\/span>expense<\/span> of the Iraq war.<\/p>\n

But wars have implicit costs as well, <\/span>including<\/span> the loss of parents by young children and loss of <\/span>family<\/span> whose pains are carried for <\/span>a life time<\/span>. War damages are pervasive and multidimensional.<\/span><\/p>\n
