Now, Montana governor, Brian Schweitzer is <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">planning<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> to establish a state-wide universal <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">healthcare<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">system<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> modeled after that of the state&#8217;s Canadian neighbor, Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">The governor<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">, a Democrat, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">reported<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> last month <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">he will<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> seek a waiver from the federal government to design his own <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">healthcare<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">system<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> in Montana rather than implement <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">all the<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> regulations set by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the federal <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">healthcare<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> reform package signed into law <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">last year<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">. His <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">goal<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> is <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">simple<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">: better care, for more <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">individuals<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> and less <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">money<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">.<\/p>\n<p>Montana is one of just <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">a few<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> states in the nation that has maintained a <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">budget<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> surplus throughout the recession, and the governor <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">doesn&#8217;t<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> plan on letting disappointing aspects of the federal <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">plan<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> get in the way of that.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A little over a decade ago he was busing Montana senior citizens to Canada to fill their prescriptions at reasonable prices, a way of protesting the American pharmaceutical industry.
