\"\"<\/a>The <\/span>scale<\/span> of Apple’s earnings, reported <\/span>immediately after<\/span> the stock market’s close yesterday, <\/span>needs<\/span> no further comment, but the media <\/span>can’t<\/span> suspend <\/span>logic<\/span>, coherence and <\/span>excellent<\/span> math <\/span>skills<\/span> when reporting on <\/span>an incredible<\/span> quarter.<\/p>\n

The issue was Apple’s <\/span>growth in<\/span> Greater China, which is <\/span>composed of<\/span> China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The <\/span>New York<\/span> Times <\/span>reported<\/span> that the sales of all Apple’s products <\/span>grew<\/span> nearly <\/span>six<\/span> times from a year ago.<\/p>\n

But here’s the <\/span>rub<\/span>: The <\/span>Times<\/span> failed to report where sales <\/span>had been<\/span> in Greater China <\/span>a year ago<\/span>. So how big <\/span>could it have been<\/span> a year ago?<\/p>\n

The Wall Street Journal <\/span>won’t<\/span> tell us either, but at least it reports where the <\/span>business<\/span> stood this quarter – at $3.8 billion.<\/p>\n

<\/span>F<\/span>or Apple in Greater China, it\u2019s <\/span>just the<\/span> beginning. Increasing business six-fold is <\/span>definitely<\/span> <\/span>amazing<\/span>, but if they do it <\/span>over a<\/span> year’s time <\/span>stock traders<\/span> can <\/span>definitely<\/span> lean in excitedly.<\/span><\/p>\n
