Or at least make it to the front door. <\/p>\n<p>The Seattle-based tech giant announced Tuesday it&#8217;s made another move into the home security and surveillance business, acquiring Ring, a smart-doorbell maker that streams audio and video to cellphones. <\/p>\n<p>Neither company has released details about the deal but Reuters <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ReutersTech\/status\/968589365646647296\">reported <\/a>that it cost over $1 billion. <\/p>\n<p>Amazon may have just officially put a ring on Ring, but the relationship between the two started through its Alexa Fund, which funnels money into companies that create new ways to integrate Amazon&#8217;s voice technology into their products. In June, Ring <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.ring.com\/2017\/06\/22\/ring-video-doorbells-and-security-cameras-now-work-with-amazon-alexa-on-echo-show\/\">announced <\/a>they&#8217;d figured out how to connect select devices to work with Alexa on Echo Show and Fire TV. <\/p>\n<div>\n<div>[embedded content]<\/div>\n<div><b><b>Ring <\/b><b>YouTube<\/b><\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Two months ago Amazon also snapped up <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blinkforhome.com\/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-MCC1bfH2QIVBUwNCh3pTg6zEAAYASAAEgLrhPD_BwE&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds\">Blink<\/a>, another maker of Wi-Fi-connected security cameras that has recently ventured into the video doorbell industry, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2017\/12\/22\/amazon-acquires-connected-camera-and-doorbell-startup-blink\/\">according <\/a>to TechCrunch. <\/p>\n<p>But Amazon is not just leaving it up to other companies to watch what&#8217;s going on at your front door. In November, it debuted a new home security camera called <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B01C4UY0JK\">Cloud Cam<\/a> that comes with <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/b?&amp;node=17285120011\">Amazon Key<\/a>, an app that lets some Amazon Prime members grant service providers \u2014 including dog walkers, house cleaners and delivery companies \u2014 keyless entry into homes. <\/p>\n<aside>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>The Key app was supposed to be the online retailer&#8217;s solution to widespread theft of delivery packages that online shoppers have been complaining about.  Instead, GeekWire <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2017\/creeped-amazon-key-heres-home-delivery-service-will-work\/\">reported <\/a>customers are creeped out by the technology, worrying that it might be vulnerable to hacking. <\/p>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I call this the &#8220;Break &amp; Enter dropbox&#8221; and it pairs well with my Amazon Key (smartlock &amp; smartcam combo). <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s all current software.
