Legendary actress Debbie Reynolds has died, according to multiple media reports<\/a>, one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher unexpectedly passed away. She was 84.<\/p>\n

Her son, Todd Fisher, told Variety<\/a><\/em>: “She wanted to be with Carrie.”<\/p>\n

Born in El Paso, Texas, Reynolds and her family moved to California when she was 8 years old. After she became an actress and landed a few supporting roles, her big break came in the immortal musical Singin’ in the Rain<\/em>. She displayed a bright comic touch and held her own as a singer and dancer against Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor.<\/p>\n

Reynolds soon soared into movie stardom, proving especially popular in light comedies like Susan Slept Here<\/em> and Tammy and the Bachelor<\/em>. But she could also handle roles with greater depth, as in the comic musical drama The Unsinkable Molly Brown<\/em>. She earned an Academy Award nomination as best actress for that performance.<\/p>\n

As her movie career waned, the talented singer focused on nightclub performances and stage productions. In the 1970s, she became a noted collector of movie memorabilia and got more involved in various business ventures.<\/p>\n
