First things first: Wonder Girls, which was previously staged as a quintet, is now a mere quartet after the shuffle. Two of the members from the last incarnation of the group (from 2012…a near-eternity in the world of K-Pop music)Sunand Soheeare no longer affiliated with the group. Sun got married and had a child since the band last performed, while Sohee left the JYP Entertainment record label during 2013. Original member Yenny is still at the fore, as is rapper Yubin(who joined the group during 2007). Sunmi, who originally left the group during 2010 for academic purposes, is now back after dabbling in a solo career. Lim, the member that was brought on originally to replace Sunmi, will stick around however as the fourth member in the group.
According to a release from JYP Entertainment, the Wonder Girls have already shot a music video for a forthcoming single release. The group hasnt released an album since 2011s Wonder World, but few Korean pop acts have landed as successfully in the American music market. The band remains the only Korean girl group to land a song in the Hot 100, as Nobody peaked at no. 76 during 2009.
The reformation isnt all that surprising of news. Billboardinterviewed Yubin earlier this year, where the Wonder Girl reported that she kept in touch with her former bandmates…as well as living with them. Doesnt seem too surprising that the roommates ended up reforming the band.
