The Clock is Ticking

As both sides blame each other for the impending government shut down, politicians expect the worst. No agreement is in sight, as Democrats and Republicans spar over which provisions of the budget should be kept and which should be cut. Particularly divisive is the issue over women’s health funding programs.

The government shut down, would freeze many federal government agencies. Even essential personnel would not receive paychecks during this period, with the exception of members of Congress. Those members are currently working towards an agreement that would ensure that combat troops are paid.

Speaker of the House John Boehner stated that he would return his pay for the time that the government is shut down.

The government shutdown will occur at midnight tonight if Republicans and Democrats cannot reach an agreement on the budget.
