Starbucks customers were greeted with several changes as they stopped in for their morning fix Tuesday.
As part of its 40th anniversary celebration the company has reworked its logo, dropping the words “Starbucks Coffee.” The menu has also been changed to offer new coffee flavors, including cocoa cappuccino, and a variety of news desserts named Starbucks Petites. In April, Starbucks will unveil its Via instant coffee product in China, as reported in the Wall Street Journal.
This is not the first time the Seattle-based coffee merchant has altered its logo. It is the fourth such change since the first store opened in 1971. After suffering a decline in sales during the 2007 recession, the company cut jobs and closed stores worldwide. More changes, such as increased Wi-Fi availability and stores designed to blend into local neighborhoods, have led to a recovery in sales. Profits doubled between fiscal 2009 and 2010.
