Social Media Helping Out

From the moment that news of the devastating natural disasters in Japan reached the rest of the world, internet companies such as Twitter and Google jumped in to do whatever they could to help. Google released a program called “person finder” that was designed specifically for those seeking information about missing people. Microsoft is also offering technical support and software license to companies that have been negatively affected free of charge. Due to the overwhelming flood of information surging through its system, Twitter is doing its best to control its servers by suggesting that individuals use specific tags for earthquake information, rescue requests and other similar criteria. Popular websites like Amazon and Yahoo have links on their home pages that encourage visitors to give charity to relief efforts.

There are upwards of 16,000 earthquake clips that have been uploaded onto Youtube. As terrible as a crisis as this is, there are regular citizens everywhere who are doing their best to alleviate the system through the power of the internet.
