Rebels Take Ajdabiya, Saleh May Step Down

Opposition fighters in Libya regained control of Ajdabiya Saturday with the help of coalition air power, and Muammar Gaddafi’s forces retreated leaving their dead on the battlefield. The siege continued in Misrata with government mortars and artillery shelling the city from the west and the east. A witness told Reuters that snipers still occupied rooftops and 115 people had been killed in the past week.

In the western city of Zwara residents report that régime authorities are rounding up civilians who participated in the demonstrations that preceded the conflict.

NATO is expected to assume command of the no-fly zone Sunday.

Meanwhile in Yemen, the Foreign Minister said details of an agreement to facilitate a peaceful transition of power may be reached shortly. President Saleh as offered to step aside by year’s end, but Yemeni television is reporting demonstrators have stiffened their demands which could lead to a possible derailment of any deal.
