On Saturday, the rebel military in Libya grasped at words to attempt to explain the rift occurrance in its highest ranks, also giving acknowledgement to the role of soldiers in a NATO bombing of rebel columns that happened the previous night.
The strike resulted in the death of thirteen rebels and left seven injured, and now serves as an illustration of the dangers of any sort of aerial bombing campaign being used against a front line. Several cars and an ambulance went up in flames, followed by rebels firing their guns into the air as though celebrating the bombing.
Opposition leaders believe the actions of the rebels firing their guns after the bombing is an indication that rebels were responsible for the bombing.
Abdul Hafidh Ghoga, vice president and spokesman for the oppositional Transitional National Council said the bombing was a “terrible mistake” and they won’t let it happen again.
