A poll issued Monday verified that those residing in New Jersey approved of making sports betting legal, but not Internet gambling.
The study found that the approval rate was at 62 percent with 801 people polled, for betting on sports such as basketball, football and baseball.
Senator Lesniak has been promoting a referendum for the state to offer sports betting. He is claiming that jobs would be added to the state in this field. The petition is opposed by Governor Christie, for reasons that include the federal law prevents this type of betting outside of Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Delaware.
Senator Lesniak may remove a portion of the bill that would use gambling funds to increase horse racing winnings. When responders to the study were told that the state has already approved horse racing bets their positioned changed in regards to internet gambling and most had been unaware of the current betting policy.
