Major League Baseball is attempting to spread its wings above and beyond the United States. The MLB is reaching out to other countries and beginning to educate them about baseball and show them why the United states loves it. They now have a Major League Baseball International Ambassador Program in which off season players travel across the globe spreading the word about baseball. These ambassadors hold clinics and work with kids teaching them the fundamental skills of the game. They get to bring a small piece of American culture with them to other countries.
This year Prince Fielder, Curtis Granderson. and C.J. Wilson traveled abroad as MLB ambassadors. Fielder went to Japan, Granderson went to New Zealand and Wilson went to South Africa. The highlights of their recent trips will be shown this week on FOX’s “This Week in Baseball” on Saturday. Be sure to tune in for some great scenes and great fun as Fielders dons sumo gear and practices with the professionals.
