Kendall Says NFL Deal Not Acceptable

When labor talks between NFL owners and the player’s union failed last week Commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement saying the players left a good offer on the table. Friday, player rep Pete Kendall said that isn’t so.

According to Kendall, the league tried to pull “the old switcheroo.” He told reporters the owner’s final offer contained measures that would have left players cut out of any revenue beyond projected growth, terms that went counter to the way compensation has been figured in the past.

Talks ended last Friday after more than two weeks of federal mediation. The union decertified and filed a lawsuit prompting owners to enact a lockout.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, in an e-mail to the Associated Press, wrote that players were given the opportunity to share in extra revenue beginning in 2015. He characterized the union’s actions as making no sense. Kendall maintains the deal was one the players simply could not accept.
