Flash and the Android

Adobe Flash Player 10.2 will be available via the Android Market in beta form on the 18th. Bloggers mentioned that Flash would not be readily available for Verizon Wireless’s Xoom Android 3.0 tablet. The Xoom was launched February 24th, and was intended to challenge Apple’s iPad. According to Adobe, Flash 10.2 will be able to be downloaded over-the-air on the Xoom and smartphones towards the end of March.

There will be subsequent updates that will lead to general availability of Flash Player 10.2.

Video presentation is expected to be accelerated, reduced CPU usage, and higher frame rates should be expected for H.264 with the release of Flash 10.2.Android 2.2 users will be surprised with the Xoom’s decreased latency rate, along with smoother Web content rendering.  Android 2.2 and 2.3 and multicore, GPU-enabled processor users will experience better rendering of Flash videos, games and other content.
