The body of retired firefighter, John A. Garcia, 51, was found in his apartment in Grand View, a village in Rockland County on the west bank of the Hudson River. The death of Mr. Garcia, has been initially ruled a suicide, authorities said.
Mr. Garcia survived 2 of the most horrible fires any New York City firefighter has ever faced, the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in 2001 along with the fire at the Deutsche Bank building.
In the months and years after the Deutsche Bank fire, Mr. Garcia had a terrible time coping with the deaths of of 2 men men. He told friends that he felt responsible.
Relatives and friends at his funeral described him as a gregarious dad who was the first person to check the rig, the first to go to the kitchen sink following dinner, and the first person to crack a joke.
