A Clayton County Buffet restaurant got one of the worst health inspection scores we have seen.
On July 1, a Clayton County health inspector found two dozen violations at Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet on Tara Blvd. in Jonesboro. That led to a score of 29.
Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge went to the restaurant to ask management about the violations. She had a copy of the current inspection with her.
Some customers were shocked to learn it was a 29, because Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet still had the previous score, 81, still posted. One customer, Lawanda Bynum, said she felt violated that she ate there not knowing the current score.
Some of the violations in the inspection report included molded papaya, potentially hazardous foods not held cold enough, flies around the buffet bar and in the kitchen, and crab meat being thawed underneath a prep table instead of thawing under running water.
The manager, Hang Ak, told Sbarge they have already fixed the coolers and are getting new equipment to keep out the flies. He says they have never had such a bad score and apologized to customers.
Ak says he and his staff are fixing the problems and is 100 percent confident they will pass the re-inspection next week.
