A series that had been pretty evenly played exploded in a third-quarter burst of Derrick Rose Tuesday as the Chicago Bulls finished the season for the Indiana Pacers, beating the visiting team 116-89.
Rose, who entered the game with a sprained ankle, was called for his fourth foul early in the third, but after taking a short break, he came back onto the floor and took control of the game. He hit back-to-back threes on his way to scoring 10 of his game-high 25 points in the period. Luol Deng contributed 24 for Chicago.
Except for that stretch, the Pacers gave the Bulls all they could handle in the game and the series. Considering their sub-.500 regular season, the Pacers made a good showing, led by Danny Granger, who finished Tuesday with 20 points.
Chicago now waits for the winner of the Orlando-Atlanta series. The Hawks lead 3-2, with game six set for Thursday.
