High school students travel on the James River for a learning experience

Lynchburg, Va –

High school students from around Virginia are getting the chance to learn about the James River up close.

The James River Expedition is giving them the chance to travel along part of the 340-mile waterway.

Today marked the start of the second leg of three eight-day excursions that make up the program.

All week long, students will paddle from Lynchburg to Richmond and learn about a unique part of Virginias ecosystem.

Once youre able to take a student and actually put them in a boat and have them swim, and sleep, and maybe even bathe in the river, it kind of changes their perspective on it a little. We feel much more invested in the river after spending eight days paddling it., says James River Association Lead Educator Kyle Burnette

This part of the expedition continues until next Saturday.
