Sports signups: Variety of summer camps available for youths and teens

Do you have a local sporting event to list? The signup list, which runs Saturdays online and Sundays in The Grand Rapids Press, is available to announce community sporting events, teams looking for players and schools or teams looking for coaches.

Its a free service. Send to grsports@mlive.com and put Signups in the subject line. Describe your event in sentence form and make sure to include a phone number that readers can contact, and also an email address, if possible. Include a date when registration closes.

Submissions are accepted no more than a month ahead of an event, and are subject to editing. The deadline for entries is 3 pm Thursday.

BASEBALL

* The Summer Slam baseball camp – through Baseball Concepts, the West Michigan Sports Commission, the West Michigan Whitecaps, and Meijer – will be held 9 am-noon July 13-14 at the Art Van Sports Complex in Rockford. It is for ages 6-9 and 10-14 and aimed at building confidence and character in kids while teaching first-rate baseball skills and drills.

BASKETBALL
* The 4th Annual Kyle Visser Post Play Camp for boys and girls ages 11-18 will be held from 9 am -1 pm on July 13-15 at MVP Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids.
Beyond elite on-court training, the camp will offer sports nutrition advice, a professional strength and conditioning trainer, take-home handouts, physical combine and much more. Cost is $150 per camper. Registration is at www.kylevisser.com.

* Lakeside Hoops is hosting two basketball skill camp for girls in grades 7-12.
Ball Handling will be Friday, July 24, from 5-7 pm and Saturday, July 25, from 10 am -noon at MVP Fieldhouse. Shooting Camp will be Friday July 31, from 5-7 pm and Saturday, August 1, 10 am-noon at MVP Fieldhouse. Go to www.lakesidehoops.org to sign up or call Jason at 616-918-3745.

* The inaugural Drive Basketball Camp will be held 8 am-noon July 27-30 at The Courthouse with drills being taught by Grand Rapids Drive staff. It is for ages 8-14. There will be various individual and team contests throughout the week with awards being given out. Team concepts will be taught through 5-on-5 scrimmages and lectures. Cost is $75 and includes a Drive t-shirt and two tickets to upcoming season game. More information is available at www.thecourthouseac.com.

* For the 10th year, coach Ken George is running the HoopSmart Basketball Camp. The camp runs August 10-13, from 9 am3 pm for boys going into grades 4-9. This is a high-energy camp with drills, league games, contests, and special overtime and sudden death tournaments. The camp is held at MVP Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids. FOOTBALL

* Davenport University Boys Girls Soccer Camp will be held July 6-9 from 5 pm- 8 pm at the Davenport University Turf Field. TRACK FIELD

* Grand Valley State is hosting a track field camp July 5-8, 2015 in Allendale.
The camp will feature instruction in the following events: Sprints, all sprint events; middle distance, 800m; Steeplechase; hurdles, all hurdle events; throws, all throwing events, and jumps, long jump, triple jump and high jump (no pole vault).
