Franklin County School Division hires new finance director

David Terry of Roanoke is the new director of business and finance for Franklin County public schools.

Terry replaces Lee Cheatham, who served the school system for nearly 25 years before his death in March.

Terry earned his bachelor’s degree and his MBA in finance from Virginia Tech. He has 30 years of experience working in the finance and business field in various places in Virginia, as well as in North Carolina.

Terry was the director of finance for Lynchburg City schools for seven years and the director of finance for Alleghany County schools for nearly two years. He most recently left his post in Alleghany County to accept the position in Franklin County.

Terry also has 11 years combined experience with several schools of higher education, including Duke University, Averett University and DeVry University.

A native of Danville, Terry and his wife, Jane, have a daughter who is also a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and works and resides in Northern Virginia.

“I am excited to have Dave Terry on our team,” said Superintendent Mark Church. “He comes to us with a wealth of knowledge in school and business finance. We look forward to getting him on board.”
