A former Hendersonville resident is competing to win his own show on Travel Channel, but he needs your help.
Ricky Moreno, who lives in Las Vegas now, is one of five finalists on “Travel Channel Star.” Judges called the former Nannie Berry Elementary and Hawkins Middle School student entertaining and unique after watching his submitted clip. The video shows Moreno, 26, arriving in India … and leaving with an unplanned rabies shot after a monkey bite.
Moreno moved with his family to Las Vegas 10 years ago to support brother’s Frankie Moreno’s singing career. But Ricky Moreno still calls Hendersonville “my second home.”
According to his online bio, “When Ricky was 18, he emptied his savings account to take a solo backpacking trip to Europe. He’s been traveling ever since, thanks in part to a stint as a baggage handler for an airline. He’s now been to 40 countries and 4 continents, and he’s just getting started.”
Online voters will pick the final two “Travel Channel Star” competitors. Voting kicked off Monday and ends at 10:59 pm Friday. You can vote once per day — and view Moreno’s video and learn about him — at travelchannel.com/shows/travel-channel-star, and once on Twitter by tweeting: Ricky should be the next #travelchannelstar!
The top 2 will film travel challenges in the field, with a final round of voting deciding the winner, who will be revealed Sept. 7 on Travel Channel.
