The Blue Jays claimed right-hander Jesse Chavez off outright waivers from Kansas City on Friday afternoon.

Chavez spent most of 2011 pitching for Triple-A Omaha of the Pacific Coast League. He placed a 2-4 record with a 3.75 ERA and sixteen saves in 45 games. He has a career mark of 6-10 with a 5.36 ERA in 143 games.

Chavez could give depth to an organization that is set to undergo drastic modifications in its relief corps, as Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch and Shawn Camp may all potentially become free agents this off season.

Toronto also announced on Friday that left-hander Rommie Lewis, infielder Chris Woodward and outfielder Dewayne Wise have chosen to become free agents.

Lewis and Woodward spent most of the year with Triple-A Las Vegas, and Wise joined the club late within the season. All 3 are unlikely to be in Toronto’s plans at the big league level in the future.
