The most recent news on Libya is that there really has been no big, new changes. President Obama is still opposed to sending American troops to Libya to help the rebels fight the opposing forces. Britain, France, and Italy have decided to send military aid from their nations to Libya. Our government has drawn together a plan to give Libyan opposition $25 million, which can not be used for lethal use. The administration has proposed to Congress to send vehicles and storage tanks for fuel but was then turned down due to fears of mishandling these materials. The administration has however, agreed to send medical supplies, boots, tents, and other gear. President Obama has also decided to use “draw down authority” to give these opposing forces American goods that are surplus to protect innocent civilians. This will be the first direct aid to the rebels after many weeks of accessing what their intentions are and accessing their needs.
