President Obama Supports Offshore Drilling In Brazil

President Obama made a visit to Brazil last weekend to show his support for their decision to drill offshore for gas and oil. He says that he is looking forward to importing oil from them in the future. He wants to reduce the United States dependency on the Middle Eastern countries for oil.

Some say he is a hypocrite, because he and his administration have been trying to ban offshore drilling since he became President. Obama’s refusal to issue new drilling permits is forcing the rigs out of the Gulf of Mexico and on to other countries that want to do business. The oil and gas prices are all ready soaring and the United States oil production is expected to drop by at least 200,000 barrels a day this year. Combined with approximately 20,000 lost jobs in the U. S. oil industry, some of his supporters are becoming doubtful that the economy will improve.
