New to the job and already gaining support, Marty Morgenstern, confirmed Secretary of the Labor and Workforce Development Agency is planning to fine contractors who are causing harm to the economy.
Morgenstern intends to protect workers and businesses that are obeying state rules and punish those who are not. Reports stating that many licensed contractors are maneuvering around state laws, by not recording correct payroll information, improper safety conditions and avoiding paying compensation premiums.
For example Marin County contractor, Christopher J. Augusto Plumbing Company has had their license revoked for $512,700 in civil fines. The company has been accused of noncompliance for training and violating a settlement agreement. This is just one example and many more are out there preying on those who are unaware.
The California Professional Association of Specialty Contractors is backing Morgenstern completely and has asked for additional means to coordinate administration efforts and add field enforcement.
