In the year 2010 many people lost their health coverage because their premiums were raised. The numbers went up from 50.7 million to 54.2 million uninsured people. Even through this, however, insurance companies were still making a large profit. This was possible because of the medical loss ratio, which basically compared the money they were spending to the money they were making.
Every insurance policy is different, and because of this it is hard to see where and how much health coverage is being reduced. One thing is known, however, insurance companies are spending money and then telling their policy holders that they cannot spend money on things such as mammograms.
President Obama wants to enforce his Affordable Care Act, which will protect people against the health insurance companies. The companies may even owe their customers rebate money. This is possible if Republicans do not stop the Act from taking place.
