Many Americans fail to get a good night’s rest, and a lack of restful sleep can lead to unsafe driving, reduced productivity, and reduced quality of health. Dr. Charles Czeisler of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, reports that the high tech nature of our lives is to be blame. Many Americans spend the evening connected to a high tech device, and that time spent watching television, surfing the internet, playing video games, or using the phone only hurts sleep habits. In the same way that the loud noises and lights of Las Vegas make it the city that never sleeps, experts have found that the lights emitted from electronic devices stimulates our brains, preventing us from getting a full night of sleep. Teens, in particular, are susceptible to late night technology use and its subsequent sleeplessness. Relaxing in front of the tv to unwind actually has an opposite effect.
