Alabama’s largest website, al.com, has made available a free application that allows users to view real-time news. Android, iPhone and iPod owners will be able to receive breaking news from the Birmingham News, the Press-Register and the Huntsville Times. Representatives from the publications say mobile platform delivery makes up a crucial part of their overall news coverage strategy.
Most sections of the papers will be viewable, including news from throughout Alabama, sports, business, and op-ed, features as well as photos and classifieds. Also, the app can be configured to allow one-tap access to the users’ favorite categories.
Available content, such as local community news and sports, job openings, for sale items and obituaries, can be shared through e-mail, Twitter and Facebook. Users will have the ability to forward photos and video to al.com, which boasts 2.8 million individual monthly visitors.
The application can be downloaded at the Android Market and the iTunes store.
